Instructor Spotlight: Viella Galvez-Cui

Meet our newest instructor, Viella Galvez-Cui! Read on to learn more about her style and Mega Love for Elev8! Check out Viella’s classes every Sunday at 12:30pm and 1:30pm.

What is your fitness background?
I’ve been teaching different group fitness modalities for eight years. I started teaching barre in 2011 and to  supplement my knowledge, I trained in Mat Pilates. In 2017, I began teaching spin and group boxing.

What interested you in teaching at Elev8?
I heard about Elev8 two years ago when they were looking for instructors before opening. Unfortunately, I couldn’t join the training at the time but I was lucky enough to be invited to take a few practice classes. Needless to say, it was love at first lunge. I’m familiar with the red-hot BURN that comes with slow controlled movements but the fact that I worked so many muscles to exhaustion in just 45-minutes definitely appealed to me! I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to train and thankfully the stars aligned for me this year.

What is your personal exercise regimen?
My golden mean is to teach 8-12 hours every week, and that takes up most, if not all, of my energy. With ample time and energy, I’d spend it surfing, in Muay Thai training, or honing a personal yoga practice. In the meantime, taking class at Elev8 two times a week has been a good complement to my teaching schedule. The spring resistance ensures that you’re loading your muscles enough to promote bone density, without stressing the joints.

How would you describe your teaching style?
I’m a very patient person and I think it shows in my teaching style. My students and colleagues consistently say that I always seem and sound so calm when I instruct, and that helps them focus while I kill them (with kindness!). You’ll catch me being extra in my own way with wisecracks and jokes during class! I also get a kick out of making up themes for both my class sequences and playlists!

What excites you the most about teaching at Elev8?
Teaching to (and taking class with) new and familiar faces! The Elev8 community is filled with rockstars!

What is your favorite Mega Move?
Legs: Spider Lunge, Front Lunge, and Back Lunge
Arms: moves for the chest, biceps, and lats (because those are my weakest areas)
Core: Toss-up between the Mermaid Twist and the Inchworm!

What do you like to do in your free time?
Plan for my next class and get 8 hours of sleep. LOL. When you’re a freelance instructor, free time is a luxury! I like to spend mine with family and friends, preferably on a trip somewhere!

Tell us a fun fact about you!
I ate 30 Xiao Long Bao in one sitting on my 30th birthday. Planning to keep this tradition for the next few birthdays!
